RoMaNtIc & ViCtOrIaN PoEtrY...

1. The French Revolution began July 14, 1789. It was England's worst fears. While the French revolution was taking place they overthrew the king by a deinocratic "rabble" they feared the revolution would spread. King Charles I lost his head in 1649, the thought of another bloody rebellion against vested authority was more than the England people could take.

In 1792 the "September Massacre" took place hundreds of French aristocrats- some ties to the regime of Louis XVI, had their heads removed from their bodies by a new French invention, the guillotin. During the control of the country changed once again. The new emperor of France became Napolen Bonaparte.

2. I think life for "normal" people wasn't what we would think "normal" is. Everything that it have learned so far shows that it was 10 times harder knowing that some people accept you and some don't. they even worked their children, out of everyone living in the time i believe that the children had it the baddest. they didn't have a law system so people would kill or do whatever they wanted to and not get punished for their actions. A lot different form the way that we live today.

3. The first generation ROMANTICS looked back to Milton and Shakespeare for their inspiration. They created new forms of lyric poetry. They searched for "Recompense" (WordsWorth term) for destruction of their youthful optimism, caused by England's resistance to change. The second generation, whose lives were cut short by illness or accident, the second generation never made peace with the Repressive atmosphere in England following the end of Napoleonic wars in 1815. their poety look forward it was more extravagant and visionary.
The Interrelationship of Nature, the mind and the imagination. The romantics are mostly called nature poets, but thats not true. This type of poetry compares three different views of nature. First the mysterious forces at work. Second the Enlightenment. and third is the Romantics. (Romance) The idea of the poet. What poetry really is? How they came about. How it went from a poet is a man speaking to men. To a poet is someone who writes a poem in which there is a "man speaking to men". they say that Romantic lyric, then speaks in what is called the true voice of feeling or the language of the heart.
Romanticism someone with more living sensibility, more enthusiasm and tenderness. A greater knowledge of human nature and a more compressive soul. Than are suppose to be common among people. (human nature)

I read The Lamb by William Blake it is talking about a lamb who made thee. The lamb is by some type if stream and/or meadow. The lamb has the softest clothing. The lamb is meek and mild, it became a little child,. yes i think it is a good example of Romantic Poetry, It has to do with nature. "By the stream and o'er the mead and making all the vales rejoice?"
She Dwelt Among the Untrodden ways. this poem talks about a women who is a maid, but no one really likes her. it says very few to love. But it talks about nature "Besides the Spring of Dove" or "A Violet by a mossy stone"
She walks in beauty by George Gordan Lord Byron. This poem explains a women great beauty down to her features. " Thus mellowed to that tender light which heaven to gaudy day denies" It is very enthusiastic and tenderness.

The difference between the Romantic Period and the Victoria Period would have to be the way they treated their children. in the Romantic period they had factories and they worked their children just like any other period in the older days. The Romantic Period went by a policy of " Laissez Faire" which mean "leave alone." People were really able to do what they wanted to do. In the Victorian Period they would work their children 12 days. At the end of the day the children would fall asleep and the machines which is a safety issue. Both periods were very cruel to children to me.

Victorian's wrote through questions and doubts. They spoke their minds. they spoke to others they thought shallow and complacent, they basically asked what material satisfied human wants and needs to the fullest. The poets also wrote to show the readers the connection of heaven, earth, body, and soul. The main thing a poet is trying to do it make the readers aware of their beliefs which was the connection between earth and heaven, body, and soul material and idea but not all poets wrote like this.
The last way the poet wrote was by moral and political. Victorian writers wanted to get their readers to become shame or scare into their moral or politial actions, they believed were really true. "Victorian literature was suppose to entertained, informed, warned and reassured.

The Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
It's about an eagle who sees his prey. It began to describe the natures surroundings, "The wrinkle sea beneath him crawls."
A Sonnet Forty Three by Elizabeth Barnett Browling
This sonnet began talking about how much they love this person, expressing their feelings for a certain person,"I love thee with a love I seem to lose."
Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold
This poem describes the beach, telling about the moon and the sea. It also talks about ancient Greek people, Sophocles and Aegean. "The sea is calm tonight the tide is full the moon lies fair."
Ah, are you Digging my Grave? By Thomas Hardy
It's asking someone who is digging my grave."Then who is digging my hearest dearest kin."
Ozymandian by Percy Bysshe Shelly
It's about a sculptor, the sculptor believes its a king of all kings just like he is a real person. A greater knowledge of human nature. "My name is Ozymandias king of kings. Look at my works, ye mighty and despair.
When i have Fears by John Keats
This poem talks about someone who has fears, he scared of the dark. Very good imagination. ' when i behold, upon the night's starred face, huge cloudy symbols of high Romance and think that i may never live live the trace their shadows, with the magic hand and chance.

The Industrial Revolution greatly expanded. It moved through booms and depressions. the first decade of Victorian's Regin was full of troubles. which became known as "Hungry Forties." Victoria took her throne in 1842, which was also the first year of depression. government commissions investing working conditions. they learned of children of mangled when they fell asleep at machines at the end of a 12 hour day working.

After reading about this time in period it was very sad and also hard to make ends met. children we working, not only were they working they were pulling 12 hour shifts that's a lot for a child. that's longer than a average school day. The children would end up falling asleep at their machines, which can be very dangerous. The potato Blight came in Ireland it killed one million people and forced two million to move away. Some went to England, They were 2 to 12 people in a room sometimes with only 2 toilets for every 250 people. I would not be able to handle all of this if i were living in their day. I would go crazy.

The RestOratioN...

Charles II died and his brother James II a practing roman Catholic took over. no one was really happy about this because supposedly the Roman catholics has not only set fire to London but had plans to try to hand the country over to the pope. When Jame's Queen had their son a catholic heir, the pressure on the family was so large that the fled to France and the " Glorious (bloodless) Revolution" was accomplished. The rest of the English Kings were all Georges.

I think that this happened for a reason. What about if all of it really was true. what about if they really were going to hand the country over to the pope. Where and how would it be today. A lot different in my eyes. what about if they did set fire to London, for what reason? There should be any king that would be so childish that they would hand over their duty and set fire to London hurting all types of Innocent people. Maybe the family fled to France for safety and best for everyone.

Satire: is a poem that explains the worst things that anyone could possibly say about another person.
Examples:
  • The Family Guy
  • King of the Hill
  • Scary Movie
  • Dave Chappell

Some place in this world people don't know about money or at least they don't have it like we do. they have children just so they can sell them to rich people or their landlords. The rich people/landlords eat the children. They prefer them to be very fat and at least around the age of 1. Mothers go around with their children begging for anything that they need. While others who don't like the life style, they fight for the pretender in Spain, or they sell themselves to the Barbadoes.

I read the Journal of the Plague year. Its about an infection that spreads very quickly once you have been infected you have less than 6 hours to live at the most. Many people didn't know they were infected until they began to get gangrene spots, which they also were called tokens. Mothers were killing their children, one man even hung himself. One man who was infected broke away from the nurse and ran with the motions of his arms and legs cured the infection, they say. One man went to the hotel and said that he was infection free. In the morning they found him dead. People would have apoplexies and epilepsies. it was very bad.

I think the people in this time should have just stayed to themselves with their family. To me it seems as if everyone or majority of the people were sick. even if they didn't look sick or acted sick. nine time out of ten they were. if they were sick they didn't know, until they dropped dead. And even if they did know they wouldn't tell you. everyone should just stay to themselves.

ReNaIsSaNcE

Were the Renaissance in Europe really the most important period for the western artistic world? After surviving the Black Plague, i would have a new attitude also and ready to get out and start all over.
Some say that the Renaissance began in Italy. When the Catholic Church began commissioning artists. The reformation, was a big turn. It was the new theories about life. The printing press was very important because it lowered the prices of books. usually the monks would have to hand copy the bibles and now that it has changed people no longer have to depend on the pope to read the message they could do it themselves. Soon people begin slowly backing away from the Catholic Church.
King Henry the 8th broke away from the Catholic Church. He wanted to divorce one of his wives, but the Pope said no. So he started his own church. In the end he had 6 wives two he divorced, one died, he had two beheaded, and one out lived him. When he died he has three children for six years his only son ruled. he was very sickly and did by sixteen.
his daughter Mary ruled for five years. his younger daughter Elizabeth became Queen and ruled England for forty- five years. They believe she was the one who actually wrote Shakespeare's plays. When she died the renaissance came to an end. After her King James, stepped up. who commissioned the English translation of the bible which is still popular today.

1. I like the Shankespear's rhyme scheme the best. To me it just seems as if it flows better than Spencer's.

2. William Shakespeare
first section
explains that he couldn't compare her to a summer day cause she is so ugly.
second section
explains how hot it is. But after the day dies down. everything changes its not so hot anymore. He doesn't want to compare her to something that would faid away.
third section
not going to faid away. Never lose your beauty. She's never going to die.
forth section
as long as people where around the poem would be around and forever lives her.

Edmund Spencer
first section
How in love he is with her. he compares his love for her is like fire and her heart is like ice. The harder he tries, the more she doesn't like him
second section
he tries to show her he loves her, but in the end she doesn't care and he is getting upset. Why is he ice heart making his fire hotter.
third section
Its not making sense to him why is ice making his fire hotter but.. her heart is getting colder.
forth section
Just give love a chance. Love is so strong that it can change the course of nature.

Fresh Spring, the herald of Love's mighty king, {a}

in whose cote-armour richly are displayed {b}

all sorts of flowers, the which on earth do spring, {a}

in goodly colours gloriously arrayd- {b}

Goe to my love, where she is carelesse layd, {b}

yet in her winters bowe not well awake; {c}

tell her the joyous time will not be staid {b}

unless she doe him by the forelock take; {c}

Bid her therefore her selfe soone ready make {c}

Ro wayt on love amongst his lovely crew; {d}

where every one, that misseth then her make, {c}

shall be by him amearst with penance dew. {d}

make hast, therfore, sweet love, whilest it is prime; {e}

For none can call againe the passed time. {e}

Section 1: spring announced the love king. Someone dressed nice in many colors. like flowers in the spring
Section 2: wants the king to go to her and show her that he likes her
Section3: to get ready for him and wait for his love. Everyone who didn't workout with her be for given by the love king
Section 4: the time is right now. so hurry cause no turning back the hands of time.

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun; {a}

Coral is far more red than her lips' red; {b}

If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun {a}

If haries be wires, black wires grow on her head. {b}

I have seen roses damasked, red and white, {c}

but no such roses see I in her cheeks; {d}

And in some perfumes is there more delight {c}

than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. {d}

I love to hear her speak; yet well i know {e}

that music hath a far more pleasing sound. {f}

I grant i never saw a goddess go: {e}

My mistress, when she walks, trends on the ground. {f}

And yet, by heaven, i think my love as rare {g}

As any she belied with false compare.{g}

Section1: She is not very pretty at all. her eyes are dark
Section2: She doesn't look healthy, she smells bad and has even worse breath

Section3: Irritating voice, music sounds much better. not very graceful either.
Section4: He loves her as much as he has misrepresented her.

{a} Like a beautiful warm sunny day
{b} The birds are chirping, the flowers have bloomed
{a} Hopefully everything is perfect and goes the right way
{b} It seems as if it is to good to be true
{c} The clouds have taken over the sun has swap places
{d} The birds have left, the wind blows, the sky is dark
{c} First its the rain, then the lighting, then the thunder everyone has gone into their own little place
{d} Now she sits in her space with a broken heart
{e} But.. maybe it is hope, the rain has stopped, the clouds have gone away
{f} Its not longer the beautiful warm day it was.
{e} The sun is still gone, will everything go her way?
{f} Will the birds chirp again, will the flowers bloom brighter because..
{g} Baby without you I will always be in a rainy, stormy way
{g} I just want the beautiful warm sunny day
